All the cares in the world... Yet no cares for YOU?
This workshop walks participants through the creation of a self-care ritual that can be dedicated to nurturing their pain and panic as they care for the world and social justice causes around them.
Participants will explore the stimulating of their five senses; scent, sight, sound, touch, and taste, as a means to sooth themselves and rebuild strength to continue their fight for justice and/or to simply find peace in what they cannot control.
Guest Speaker: Riana Mitchell
Riana Mitchell is a Denver native with a passion for social justice, human service,
and restorative practice. After completing a Bachelor of Social Work in Michigan
at Andrews University, she returned home to Colorado to put these passions to
work. Riana considers herself a bit of a “service nomad” having walked many
different paths within the helping profession. To the Puksta Retreat, she brings a
professional experience that has served at-risk individuals, individuals
experiencing homelessness, low-income families, social justice initiatives relevant
to people of color and LGBTQ communities, and several other causes aiming to
make Colorado a safe place for all its residents. Along her journey, Riana has been
able to fine-tune her mission and skill set. Her heart has taken residence in
restoration, education, and healing justice as means to live out her purpose. Riana
currently serves as an Empowerment Educator at the Center for Work,
Employment, and Education, as a Racial Equity Co-Chair for The Delores Project
homeless shelter, as an adjunct faculty for the Conflict Center’s Restorative
Justice ED program, and as a Chinook Fund Board member and Giving Project
Alumni. She desires to continue developing her skills into a consultation business
dedicated to equity and empowerment work. She is thrilled to be with you all
today to discuss her work with the Chinook Fund specifically, as this work has
been formative in her mission development. Outside of work things, Riana calls
herself “a struggling artist” with a love for music, poetry, and dance, and a
struggling millennial, simply learning to “adult” and thrive.”
